If they choose to contribute, the organization must pay the employer contribution during certain types of leave, including:<\/p><p><span style=\"color: #e38c91;\">\u2022<\/span> Work-related medical leave (illness or accident) (maximum 24 months)<br \/><span style=\"color: #e38c91;\">\u2022<\/span> Non-work-related medical leave (maximum 26 weeks within a 12-month period)<br \/><span style=\"color: #e38c91;\">\u2022<\/span> Maternity leave (max. 18 weeks) or paternity leave (max. 5 weeks);<br \/><span style=\"color: #e38c91;\">\u2022<\/span> Parental leave (maximum 52 weeks. Extension possible if required due to the child\u2019s health)<br \/><span style=\"color: #e38c91;\">\u2022<\/span> Absence when the employee\u2019s presence is required to care for a close relative due to a serious illness (max. 12 weeks, or 104 weeks if the employee\u2019s minor child has a serious, potentially life-threatening illness)<br \/><span style=\"color: #e38c91;\">\u2022<\/span> Being a candidate or an elected official at the municipal, provincial, or federal level (according to applicable laws)<\/p><p>The employee may continue contributing by paying both the employee and employer contributions:<\/p><p><span style=\"color: #e38c91;\"> \u2022<\/span> During unpaid leave (maximum 6 months); <span style=\"color: #e38c91;\"> <br \/>\u2022<\/span> During a temporary layoff.<\/p><p>Each group may agree with its employees on more generous provisions regarding contribution amounts or duration, subject to applicable laws and approval by the pension committee (see Appendix 4 of the <a href=\"https:\/\/regimeretraite.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/09\/7-Texte-du-Regime-Reglement_RRFS-GCF_refonte2023_Amendement16.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">plan text<\/a> for concrete examples).<\/p><p><b>Note:<\/b> When the employee contribution rate is 0, the employer is required to continue contributing during leave.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-1893c8a elementor-widget elementor-widget-heading\" data-id=\"1893c8a\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"heading.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<h4 class=\"elementor-heading-title elementor-size-default\">Upon Termination<\/h4>\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-872a363 elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"872a363\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p>When an employee is terminated, the employer must confirm to us the termination date. This can be done by a simple email confirming the person\u2019s name and their last day of employment (the date on which the employment relationship ended). The possible refund options (LIRA, RRSP, cheque, annuity) will depend on the amount of the value, the person\u2019s age and the applicable tax rules. These details can be modified at any time through the secure personal portal. In the case of divorce, please note that the plan is subject to the Family Property Act.<br \/><br \/><strong><strong style=\"color: #e38c91;\">In the Event of Death<\/strong><\/strong><\/p><p>If death occurs BEFORE retirement, a one-time payment is made to the spouse or beneficiary. To determine the amount to be paid, actuaries use the same calculation as for a termination before retirement age.<br \/><br \/>If death occurs after retirement, the plan pays an amount based on the choice made by the retiree before retirement: a guarantee for the designated beneficiary or beneficiaries, or a survivor pension for a spouse.
