A little note for you, Michel…
All of us, including ourselves, easily recognize your social values, your exceptional skills, and your continuous involvement and dedication over the years, particularly in the field of pension plans and always while showing respect for our members and for human dignity. Fifteen years ago was born not only the RRFS-GCF but also at the same time our business relationship. We therefore have had the joy, honour, and privilege of collaborating with you and the RRFS-GCF team on the establishment of the plan. It was an innovative approach, centred on respect for others and the values held by community groups.
Beyond the technical aspects, the challenge remained in ensuring the plan’s viability while respecting its objectives and its participants. Let us not forget that the plan was launched during a period of unprecedented crisis for defined benefit pension plans, not only in Quebec but globally. We now know what followed… the economic and financial context and applicable legislative rules subsequently led to the steady decline of so-called “traditional” defined benefit plans.
An innovative, flexible, and constantly evolving partnership, in a difficult economic, financial, and political context, could define our relationship, of which you were one of the main instigators. Our many discussions, analyses and exchanges were, both professionally and personally, a unique experience that few advisors have had—or will have—the chance to experience in their careers. We thank you for this passion.
Michel, you have not only actively participated in reshaping the landscape of pension plans in Quebec, but also in promoting member involvement in their management as well as the concept of business relationships. Fifteen years later, the province now counts seven RRFS plans covering a large number of members, including the RRFS-GCF with $150 million in assets and over 10,000 members, which has been an example… What a success! You can and should be very proud of this, always. You have been one of the main architects of the growth of the new generation of defined benefit pension plans in Quebec.
