Words for Michel Lizée
A little message for you, Michel…
Everyone, including us, easily recognizes your social values, your great expertise, and your continuous involvement and dedication over the years, especially in the field of pension plans, always within a framework of respect for members and human dignity. Fifteen years ago, not only was the RRFS-GCF born, but so was our business relationship, which began at the same time. We therefore had the joy, honor, and privilege of working with you and the RRFS-GCF team to establish the Plan. It was an innovative approach, whose core rested on respect for others and the values of community groups. Beyond the technical aspect, the challenge remained the viability of the Plan, the respect of its objectives, and the well-being of its participants. Let us not forget that the Plan was created during a time of unprecedented crisis for defined benefit pension plans—not only in Quebec, but throughout the world. We now know what happened next… the economic and financial context and the applicable legislative rules subsequently led to the regular and steady decline of so-called “traditional” defined benefit pension plans.
An innovative, flexible, and ever-evolving partnership—set in a difficult economic, financial, and political context—is what could describe our relationship, of which you were one of the main architects. Our many discussions, analyses, and exchanges have been, both professionally and personally, a unique experience that few advisors have had or will have the chance to experience in their careers. We thank you for this passion.
Michel, you not only played an active role in reshaping the landscape of pension plans in Quebec, but also in fostering belief in member involvement in their governance and in the very concept of business relationships. Fifteen years later, the province now has seven RRFS plans covering a large number of members, including the RRFS-GCF with $150 million in assets and more than 10,000 members, which has been a model… What a success! You can—and must—be very proud of it, always. You have been one of the key builders of the new generation of defined benefit pension plans in Quebec. A big THANK YOU from us and on behalf of all their members.

“What? Shall we allow those to perish who even now are supported by the remnants of their property or by the generosity of their friends? Or, if someone has been unable to enjoy public benefits because of an enemy, he is protected by the censor’s own law; but the one whom that man does not allow to enjoy them—he who is an enemy, even if he is not officially called one—should we not bring him help?
Therefore keep longer in the province the man who makes agreements between our allies and the enemy, between citizens and allies, the man who thinks himself superior to his colleague simply because the other deceived you with gloomy looks and expressions, while he himself never pretended to be anything other than what he truly was—utterly worthless.
But Piso boasts in a different way that he accomplished this in a short time, so that Gabinius would not be considered the only most wicked man of all.”

“What? Shall we allow those who are still supported by what remains of their property, or by the generosity of their friends, to perish? Or, if someone has been unable to enjoy public rights because of an enemy, he is protected by the censor’s own law; but the one whom that man does not allow to enjoy them—the man who is an enemy, even if he is not officially called one—are we not supposed to bring him help?
Therefore, keep longer in the province the man who makes deals between our allies and the enemy, and between citizens and allies; the man who even thinks himself superior to his colleague because the latter deceived you with gloomy looks and expressions, while he himself never pretended to be anything less than he truly was—utterly worthless.
